Interest Groups

We offer a variety of monthly activities for our members. The groups listed below are constantly updated in our monthly newsletter, The Triad. Members can contact coordinators by consulting their Directory or The Triad.


ANYONE WHO HAS READ THE BOOK
10 am, 3rd Friday of the month at the Moraga Library

The book selections for 2008/2009 are:

BEST SELLERS BOOK GROUP /CRITIC'S CHOICE
Are you interested is reading ten or eleven best selling books during the coming year for a total cost of $20?

In the Critic's Choice/Best Sellers Book Group, we buy several copies of recent fiction and non-fiction books in September and circulate them through a neighborhood reading group of ten or eleven members. You read one book each month from October through July or August; then pass it on at the beginning of the next month. Your last selection of the year is yours to keep. We meet once during August to discuss the past year's selections and to choose books for the next year.

OML’s Bridge groups are generally not looking for new members; however, they do rely on an up-to-date substitute list. If anyone is interested in becoming a sub or would like to start a new group, please contact a coordinators listed below.

CLASSICAL CONCERTGOERS
This group attends daytime classical music concerts at various Bay Area locations. The concerts are either free or very inexpensive. Lunch at a nearby restaurant either precedes or follows the concert.

DRAMA EXCHANGE
The drama group has read the plays of Nicholas Wright, Lucille Fletcher, Anton Chekhov, Oscar Wilde and Richard Nash. We’ve had mystery, farce, drama and just plain funny. Please join us on the 3rd Monday of the month for a good read and also a time to meet with friends and nibble and chit-chat.  Please join us.

GOLF
Interested members get together for occasional play at local public courses. All handicap levels invited for fun, exercise and good friendship.

GREAT DECISIONS
Our branch is once again going to participate in the Great Decisions program sponsored by the Foreign Policy Association. This is a monthly gathering to discuss particular world affairs. There will be a sign-up table at the September Showcase as books need to be ordered by mid-December in order to receive the discount if ten or more are interested.

GREEN THUMB LADIES
Green Thumb Ladies visit gardens (public and private) and nurseries, hear lectures, see demonstrations and frequently enjoy lunch.  This organized, but fun loving group, is non-competitive and open to all.  Each month has a different organizer and hence various meeting times and days.

INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM OF WOMEN SPEAKER SERIES
Are you interested in attending the IMOW Speaker Series Program?   If so contact Jenny Offringa and get on our contact list.  Interested AAUW members will meet and go to SF together to hear the speakers.   The first speaker series is Wednesday, May 14th.

LET'S GO TO THE MOVIES
Members and their spouses or friends see the movie for the month at their convenience and then meet in members' homes for a potluck dinner and discussion of the film. Those attending will choose the next month's movie.

MEMOIRS AND MUSINGS
Everyone has a story!  Whether you have already begun your memoirs or are just thinking about doing it someday, this might be the opportunity for you.  Whether you are a novice or an experienced writer, all levels of ability are welcome.  This is a class with no teacher; we are all students and we will learn from sharing and discussing our memoirs and musings in a supportive, friendly group.

MUSEUM MAVENS
If you enjoy visiting museums and would like to share the experience with other OML members, we have the group for you. Members of the Museum Mavens group will take turns organizing monthly trips with lunch afterwards. Check the calendar for current trips.

TENNIS
Drop-in tennis for intermediate or advanced players (3.0 rating or higher).
When: Monday and Thursday mornings, 8:30 to 10:30

Where: Saint Mary's College, courts #11-12.

WISE WOMEN
IIn a nurturing supportive circle of friends we seek inspiration and wisdom through sharing ourselves, listening non-judgmentally, relating openly and honoring each other.
